We are Mervin and Ellen and currently live in central Texas (Fort Hood area), USA. We are from the Netherlands, but because of Mervin's job we moved to Texas for 3 years.
Ellen always loved Maine Coons and wanted to get one badly. Mervin wasn't really convinced untill after their first visit to a breeder. The first two Maine Coons came in our house and eversince we can't live without Maine Coons!
After we bought our first Maine Coons, Bailey, Malibu & Shelby, we collected more and more information about breeding. We contacted some breeders, Limbra Cat CLub (our cat club), the "rasclub Maine Coon" and off course the internet. After that and after thinking it through carefully, we decided to start our own cattery. Maine Coon cattery Sherman's Friends was regstered at the end of 2014.
Once we were registered as a cattery, we decided to look for another female to breed with. At that time we found Melrose with a breeder in the Netherlands. November 2015 we had our first litter (Shelby was the mother). Luckely, all kittens found an amazing forever home who we are still in contact with.
Our second litter was born in the United States in November 2016. These kittens have a great forever home as well. We decided to keep one of the kittens, Savannah.
We waited with getting our own breeding male.
We find it important that all cats can have the
live they deserve, especially a breeding male. After serious consideration and weeks of thinking about it, we decided to get our own breeding male. We were lucky enough to find El Niņo's breeder who was willing to trust El Niņo to us. We brought him from the Netherlands to the US. He is the sweetest cat! His character is perfect, as well as his looks and health! All three are very important to us!
We do everything we can to make sure our cats get the best life. In our house in the United States they have their own "cat room". In the other rooms there are enough places for them to relax, play and climb. Kibbles are always available, just like watter. THey get wet (or raw) food a couple of times a week.
In our house in the Netherlands, our cats can go outside in a fenced garden where they can enjoy the fresh air. If you go to "photo's" you can find pictures of our house in the Netherlands and the US.
We think it is important to learn and be updated about cats, Maine Coons,
breeding cats and all things related to that. We
finished the Pawpeds G1 and G2 course and a
Dutch catgenetics course. Pawpeds G3 course is
on the agenda for later on in 2017.
